Why Candle Making Workshops on Long Island Are Becoming the New Favorite Way to Connect
There’s something special that happens when people gather around a table, slow down for a little while, and create something with their hands.
At Wander Candle Co., I originally started hosting candle making workshops because I loved fragrance, creativity, and design. But over time, I realized these workshops were becoming about something much bigger: community.
One of the most meaningful moments I’ve experienced happened recently at the Breslau Mother’s Day Market.
A woman walked up to my booth and asked if I remembered one of the very first candle making classes I ever hosted. Of course, I immediately smiled, those early workshops will always hold such a special place in my heart.
She told me she had attended that class with a friend and ended up sharing a table with a group of people she had never met before. Throughout the afternoon, they laughed together, blended fragrances, helped each other create candles, and connected so naturally that by the end of the workshop, they exchanged numbers.
Then she said something I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
She told me I should add “friendship maker” to the list of services I offer because that group of strangers became best friends after that workshop, and now they all spend time together almost every weekend.
Honestly, that was one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive.
As a small business owner, you hope people enjoy the experience you create. But hearing that something as simple as a candle making workshop brought people together in such a genuine and lasting way meant more to me than I can fully explain.
It reminded me why I love doing this so much.
